November Pretty

Devil’s Lake State Park (WI)

I always try to go hiking on Thanksgiving weekend, because it’s just a good time for it. It can get crazy with all the family visiting and dinners and shopping, so carving out some time in nature always helps to keep me grounded.
The tough part, photography-wise, is that by traditional standards, November isn’t always the prettiest month. It’s just past the explosion of colors that is October, and before the nice snow that often starts in December. Everything is brown. This year I kept an open mind and remembered to look for the beauty in all things. I found the many shades of muted colors and the patterns of the dead trees to have a certain je ne sais quoi :)
