Kalapana, Island of Hawai'i

Lava! While not fortunate enough to see lava flowing into the ocean, I was fortune enough to see it at all. It was such an interesting and unique experience to see something from inside of the earth surface before my eyes. It made creaking and cracking sounds, smelled a bit like sulfur, and was quite hot. You could get a few feet away from it for long enough to take a couple of pictures - it was kind of like standing really close to a huge campfire. I was enthralled by all the beautiful patterns of both the "wet" and dry lava.
