Final Curtain

Pinnacles National Park, CA

The gallery is up! Woo! It turned out great and I am really happy with it. You’re welcome to come by 25 W. Main St on the 5th floor to check it out anytime, but the best time would be at the gallery event on the evening of Thursday August 2nd, so please mark your calendars! The plan is to have some hors d'oeuvre and drinks, and I’ll talk a bit about the photos, my artistic process, and why the heck I do all this (still figuring that one out). More details and a FB event to follow.

I have talked about the day I took this particular photo perhaps more than any other photography-focused day. After a work trip, I rented a car and drove from San Francisco to Pinnacles National Park. I slept in said car, and then woke up long before sunrise to start hiking down a trail in the rain. I figured I would hike maybe 6 miles or so and take it pretty easy. After all was said and done, I basically circumnavigated the park and hiked around 15 miles. I know what you’re thinking and no, I didn’t take a wrong turn! I was just having so much unexpected fun. The unexpected part was the key. I bounced around from cliff to cliff, boulder to boulder, log to log, and blade to blade of grass taking photos of everything. I decided to end the day perched on top of one of the highest points in the park. You may have heard this story from other photographers - the sky was totally overcast and I did not expect to see a bit of sun. I was happy to just catch my breath and bask in contentedness of the great day I had, but as luck would have it, a couple of holes in the sky opened up at the last minute and put on a grand light show to finish off one of the best days I’ve spent in nature. I hiked back down the mountain in the dark and went back to sleep in the car.
