"I Heard it Through the Grapevine Hills"
Big Bend NP (TX)
Here's a re-edit of an image I took in 2014. Grapevine Hills is a really cool area in a very underrated national park. Perhaps the park isn't visited often because you need to drive through the desert for 5 hours to get there. This place was kind of tough to find in the dark - I had to drive on an unpaved road full of huge potholes and hike a mile in the dark. One of the better sunrises I'd ever seen was happening behind this - the sky was overcast but there was just a slight opening on the horizon for the sun to go through and illuminate the bottoms of the clouds for just a short while. It was kind of neat see an amazing sunrise without anyone else in sight, and then afterwards seeing the other hikers talk about it being a completely drab day. You snooze you lose :)
